[He's listened to it about four times now. Rewind, play, rewind. The notes don't change, is the thing. The strain in his voice is still there, the obvious effort put into each word.
Stark is glad he's just hearing it now as an adult. He never would have understood as a child, and likely would have just gotten confused. Flighty. A lot of good that would have done, not there's anything at present he could do to change what happened. By the time he's heard this, Anders has come back… thankfully, in one piece.
It'd be easy to seek him out in their room. Ask him in person about this 30 year expiry date. Ask him… ask him what, exactly? What would you do, Tony-- go in there, stamp your feet, and demand to know why Anders gets to be one of the scant few who can scare the shit out of you? What happened wasn't normal. It was obviously caused by the Mist… had to be. Had to be, because everything was back to the way it should be.
That still didn't make him feel any better.]
You're back. That's all I care about, alright.
Don't worry about everything else.
[There's the sound of metal clattering, something being put away in the shop. The dull scrape of a chair across a concrete floor. A door opening and being slammed shut. Muttering.]
I'm coming in to see how you're doing, and then heading out to the bar for a little bit. I don't wanna talk about… all that… not tonight. I just need you on your feet again, okay? We will talk about what happened. Probably should anyway. Just not tonight.
[He'd almost forgotten the message he'd left. Anders hadn't been able to think very clearly at all by the time he'd given in and recorded it. His voice is careful when he speaks.]
I understand. I'd like a kiss on the way out, if you've no objection. And I'm working on getting back on my feet. I've no particular love for being useless.
[In all likelihood, stopping by the room will result in not leaving the house at all. Anders is in rotten shape, and he knows it. No matter how much the message and everything it carries with it weighs on his spirit, he knows he can't walk out that bedroom door once he's gone in.]
No rush on that, alright? You earned some down time after the week you had.
Tony. [There's a little amusement to his voice now.] I've identified the pattern in the spots on the ceiling and found everything that doesn't match into it. I've read both of my books again. I have slept more than anyone should sleep unless they're running a fever. Downtime is not my favorite thing.
But I won't rush it. [Anders' voice goes gentle again. It's difficult, comforting someone and trying to cheer them up at the same time. Especially when, as much as Anders would like the company, he's trying to avoid guilting Tony into staying.] It would be worse if I tried to return too soon and wound up collapsing or not being able to fully take care of someone. ...Which I'm not going to do.
So what you're saying is you need more books. That's doable. [He snickers.] What do you want? Romance? Science fiction? Pop-up?
How 'bout this... I go get you more stuff to read, uh. Somewhere. And spend the night in. I'll read to you! You'll lie around and recuperate, I'll show you how awesome my Lady MacBeth voice is. [Consequently, Anders, this might make you feel worse.]
[There's a quiet sort of hope there now, because even if Tony's horrible at voices, that's still company, and Tony's company on top of that.]
If you're sure you're fine with that instead of going to the bar, I'd appreciate it, Tony. The company and the activity. And I'd go for anything. [And then he sounds amused.] Though I'm not exactly sure what pop-up is. Is this some sort of explicit book, or something else?
Hey, I own the bar. I can go there any time I want.
Pop-up books can be explicit. [He pauses as he remembers something, voice turning thoughtful.] I had a pop-up Kama Sutra book that got a lot of use. Don't let me forget to tell you about page eight... and what Kama Sutra is. Heh.
[There's a quiet chuckle.] This sounds promising. I'll not forget, especially as it sounds the sort of thing I'd want explained in person. Though I'm selfish, and I'd like a great many things in person.

... but I'm not doing the Lady MacBeth voice.

You wouldn't be you without the extra cheese.
